Choosing a Retirement Development

One of the  pictures above is a retirement development and one a prison.

Can you tell the difference ?

Choosing a retirement development.

The Government are championing the fact that many older people are downsizing and moving to purpose built retirement developments freeing up much needed housing stock.

From the front our most recent McCarthy and Stone development Roswell Court in Exmouth, Devon looks like Exeter Prison. Grey window frames and red brick. The difference is the retirement development has a sea view !

If I was helping my Mum to choose a development the first question I would ask is  “How long has the House Manager been here?”

The reason for this question is because there can be a rapid turnaround of staff due to the challenging nature of some developments residents

I had always thought that I would enjoy being a House Manager. Having worked for a client living in one I would not consider now!

The buildings are often lovely, well designed and nicely located. However it is no different to living anywhere else. If you don’t get on with the neighbours, it isn’t fun !!!

The rapid turnaround of House Managers is a good indication of the atmosphere of the development.
