Non-Spill Mugs

When it comes to independence and safety, non-spill mugs are the only option. Unfortunately, they all tend to resemble a toddler’s cup or hospital beaker.

Dehydration.

Good hydration is essential for maintaining good health and helps prevent urinary tract infections. Elderly people become easily dehydrated because they either struggle to drink independently or simply forget to do so, as they don’t feel thirsty. If you are caring for someone unwell, elderly or disabled, it’s important to make it as easy as possible for them to drink independently.

Range of Non-Spill Mugs

There are plenty of options available, and from my experience working in residential settings, Ornamin are my preferred choice.

Retailing at £10.50 each, they are more expensive than their most similar counterparts, Dr Bones. The beauty of both products is inside the mug. Both the Ornamin and the Dr Bones feature a cone-shaped inner cup that makes it easier to empty the cup without having to tilt your head back. This is also beneficial for neck injuries or arthritis.

Stay Warm Insulation.

Both feature additional insulation, keeping drinks warm longer, and large handles for a secure one-handed grip. This enables people to take time to enjoy their drink.

Safety Features

These mugs have a wide base for stability and securely fitting lids. The addition of a classic spout adds to their functionality.

  • They are also made of sustainable, reusable plastic that’s BPA-free  making them safe to use repeatedly
  • Dishwasher safe,
  • Microwave safe (cup only, not the lid)

The mugs have a capacity of 160ml

Colours

The Oramin mug and the Dr Bones are both available in grey, purple, lime green, and red. The Dr Bones are not available in yellow; the Oramin one is.

Alternatives

Image shows a light-green metal mug with lid and a straw. It has one handle on the side.

This unnamed sippy cup for adults has a bigger capacity at 350ml. It also offers three different functions;

  1. Water Drinking
  2. Liquid diet
  3. Insulated cup for hot drinks.

This non-spill mug features an anti-choke air vent that regulates the flow, making it safer for elderly people with swallowing issues.

The lid is also spill-proof and leak-proof, making it ideal for use in bed or on the go. The mug has a double wall design, which prevents scalding, and the inside is made from food-grade stainless steel.

It has a long drinking tube that allows flexible drinking positions, and the handle makes it easy to manage independently.
