Don’t let the elderly die of cold

Research has shown there is a general lack of awareness of the effects that cold weather can have on the health of the elderly . A recent survey revealed that many people still think that hypothermia is the main cause of excess winter death. There is also a belief that leaving a window open at night to let in fresh air is good for health but the opposite is true – breathing in cold air lowers the temperature of the body  increasing the risk of chest infections.

Cold weather causes a massive increase in associated health problems: heart attacks, strokes, pneumonia, depression, worsening arthritis and increased accidents at home (associated with loss of strength and dexterity in the hands).

I send out free room thermometer cards for the elderly on behalf of Age UK. Simply fill out the form on the top right and one will be in the post to you the following day. Also available are the comfort thermometers that will monitor max/min temperatures as well as clearly showing if a room is too cold or too hot. These are available from me after tomorrow at a discounted price of five pounds with postage on top of 2.80 but still saving 5.70 each on the manufacturers price.

These are available to subscribers only as stocks are limited so if you would like one for someone for Christmas please subscribe today.
