Communication Aids
These lost for words sheets are probably one of the most simple communication aids on the market today. They cost just £3.99 for the digital link where you can print and laminate as many as needed or per sheet with the ‘Make and Mail” service that is offered.
The idea came when someone required a way to help a lady with dementia. Her first language was Mandarin and due to her dementia. She had forgotten how to speak English. Her carers were unable to get her to understand them and vice versa. I needed to create a really easy ‘At a glance’ tool to help. “Lost for Words” communication aids were the result.
They have been well received with some really positive feedback. They have proved to relieve stress and anxiety aiding people to ask for everyday items independently. They are ideal for anyone living with Aphasia.
Speaking problems are perhaps the most obvious, and people with aphasia may make mistakes with the words they use.
This could be sometimes using the wrong sounds in a word, choosing the wrong word, or putting words together incorrectly.
Although aphasia affects a person’s ability to communicate, it doesn’t affect their intelligence.
as a result of a stroke, brain injury or people with throat cancer and tracheotomies.
The sheets are A4 in size and laminated for hygiene and durability. They are low tech requiring no battery or GPS. Obviously, this is ideal if you are in a remote location or simply have a poor mobile signal that apps are reliant on.
