Access to Disabled Toilets

Radar Key

If you have a disability, and want access to disabled toilets, you need a Radar Key.

The RADAR Key Scheme (National Key Scheme – NKS) enables people with disabilities to access over 9,000 locked accessible public toilets across the UK by using a universal key.
This fits special locks in
  • shopping centres,
  • pubs,
  • train & bus stations
  • Cafes
You can buy genuine keys from Disability Rights UK or they are widely available from Amazon.
If you buy a genuine key you might be asked to provide proof of your disability such as your Blue Badge or a Doctors note.

Advantages of Using these Disabled Toilets

The advantages of using these toilets include;

  • You probably wont have to queue
  • They are specifically designed with your needs in mind
  • Plenty of room to manouvere your wheelchair, powerchair or mobility scooter
  • Safety Rails
  • Lower handwashing facilities and vanity mirrors

Disadvantages

  • They are not always available where there are general public toilets
  • They are not always as clean as you would like
  • They are still vandalised and closed as a result
  • They still run out of toilet paper.
