Have you considered that cooking for the elderly at Christmas is a gift in itself? It makes someone else feel valued and thought of, and it makes you feel considerate and generous.

Many elderly people spend Christmas alone, without family or friends and the comfort of a home-cooked meal. Christmas Dinner is the mainstay of most adults’ Christmas festivities. The presents are for the children, and the meal is when the adults can finally relax after the pandemonium of the build-up and preparations.

Cheap Veg

In recent years, UK supermarkets have been competing with one another to offer the cheapest vegetables at Christmas. This year, Lidl and Aldi offered theirs for 5p a bag. Obviously,  for the supermarkets, this is an invitation to us to visit and fill our baskets with more expensive goodies. For us, it’s a golden opportunity to cook more without worrying about ingredient costs.

The Bird!

The most expensive item on any Christmas dinner list is the turkey. Turkey roasts are available from early December. These are easy to cook, zero-waste, and taste good. These are often a better value for money option and can be frozen on purchase.
