Free thermometers for Summer

by Caron on April 19, 2017

An elderly woman warming her hands in front of an electric fire

Keep the elderly safe this Summer

(That’s if we get one)

Hundreds of free room thermometers have been dispatched through Caron Cares again this Winter even though it has been mild again.

Now Spring is here it is good to bear in mind these  thermometers are also handy to check that an elderly persons’ home is not too HOT!.

Many a time, I have visited someone elderly in the height of Summer to find their heating on full blast, their home like a furnace posing the risk of heat exhaustion and dehydration.

If you would like one for someone elderly or disabled please use the CONTACT tab at the top of this screen remembering to leave ALL your details, including the full postal address you would like it sent to.

There is a limit of one per household and sadly I can only ship to the UK for free but if you are an organisation working with the elderly I am able to provide more.

If you would like to make a donation towards my packing and postage costs I would be very grateful. You do so using Paypal and my email of caroncares01@gmail.com or phone number 07411947200

Thank you.  I am an individual, not a company and spend my own money on postage.

The recommended temperature for the main living room is 21C or 70F

Hi there,

I teach a group of students on level 2 and 3 apprenticeships in health and social care. We used to have one of these thermometers which we used as a teaching aid for one of our units but it’s had it now. Is there any way you could send one out to us?

Bekki

Reply

Caron April 6, 2017 at 10:30 am

Yes of course Bekki. If you message me your address here it is safe. I can also send them out to students who want them and please let them know about the blog and FB community Caron Sprake as both are useful additional learning resources. Thank you. I also make a range of cards, labels and sew on patches for people with dementia and there is a free website where your students can also make them at home. http://www.dementiaassistancecard.com – the future care providers are the secret to good social care as we move forward and the more they know is available to help them and the elderly they care for the better.

We do tell her to turn the heating up but she always says she is warm enough (I don’t think she is, I am sure she is scared of the bill that she might get turning the heating up). I think if she has a themometer we can see that she is warm enough and safe.

I have one of these thermometers from my local Age Uk which was for my 90 year old parents. However I was most surprised to find that it is not terribly easy to read being digital, and that for the majority of elderly who will have failing eyesight and lack of mobility enabling them to get close to the thermometer it does need some improvements. As it stands the production of the thermometer in its present form is I consider a waste of money. There is a definite need for a clear easy to read thermometer

Could you please send a thermometer for my mum. She has her home much too hot and is always having at least 5 cold sweats a day and keeps turning her heat up each time she gets one. Her bedroom is 94 degrees and the rest of her flat is 82 degrees. I’m hoping that the thermometer will prove to her she’s too hot. Thank you
