This week is National Dementia Awareness week 2013, when as the name says charities and organisations are working to raise awareness of dementia and importantly the person behind it.
I have decided to share a useful resource with you , one that will increase in demand as the cases of dementia are set to raise as we all live longer.
Above is the logo for the Memory & Alzheimer’s Cafe Directory.
A small logo making a huge difference to so many peoples lives.
So far Andy Francis has 211 Memory and Alzheimer’s Cafes registered here.
These cafes offer a welcoming and safe environment for people who have dementia and their carers. It is a chance for company and stimulation and for carers to share their thoughts and discuss difficulties with someone who really understands as they face the same challenges on a daily basis. I have to admit I have not yet had personal experience of caring for a loved one with dementia and as am not in the position to know how it feels, but many do.
Andy’s site offers help and advice for anyone wanting to start a Memory cafe, a Directory on the ones already in operation and a LINKS page. This has some very interesting and useful websites to visit including Caron Cares !
Andy also as a useful and interesting “News and Events” section.
