Over the past 35 years, Motability  has helped over three million disabled people become mobile, exchanging their mobility allowance to lease a car, scooter or powered wheelchair.

What are the eligibility criteria ?

To qualify for Motability a person needs to be in receipt of one of the following benefits.

  • Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance
  • Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of the new personal independence payment.
  • War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)

There is a wide selection of over 2,000 cars to choose from, suiting all needs and budgets. The Motability scheme currently offers around 450 cars that cost no more than the weekly  mobility allowance – over 150 of these cost less than the allowance, giving money back to spend  as needed.

The transfer of the allowance to Motability is simple to arrange and can be done through the car dealer. The allowance is paid directly to Motability by the Department for Work and Pensions or Service Personnel & Veterans Agency.
