Commodes

A traditional looking Lloyd loom style commode

Commodes may help prevent falls

Many elderly people need to visit the loo at night .The combination of walking in the dark, or from dimly lit bedroom to the bathroom coupled with the fact they may be drowsy increases the risk they may fall.

I know for a fact that many elderly people will use a small bucket at night which for men is safer as they can sit on the bed  but for the ladies may be dangerous!.

Many don’t want to accept they may benefit from a commode in the bedroom and it usually takes a fall for then to consent to having one. I know that as a very young girl I thought it was very funny that Grandma would go to the loo in the bedroom!

Here are some examples of the styles available today. If fortunate you may be able to have one provided free by Social Services and the Occupational Therapy departments.
